Booting the Device
Does the device boot up? No?
There are a number of things that could be wrong at this step.
- LCD Panel
- LCD Cable
- Motherboard
- Daughterboard
- Palmrest
- World Facing Camera
- Battery
Yes, you read that right. The palmrest has caused the device to seem like it was dead.
Power indicator light
First, we need to check if the power indicator light flashes when we plug the device in with the power adapter.
Chromevox
If there is no light, try turning on Chromevox. Press the power button to hopefully boot the device.
While there is still no display or light, wait a few seconds and press the key-combination CTL + ALT + Z
to turn on Chromevox.
If you hear a beep and a computer voice then the motherboard is good and the issue lies somewhere else.
Isolate Motherboard
**When plugging and unplugging components from the motherboard be sure to have the battery and power adapter unplugged!**
Disconnect all other parts from the motherboard besides the LCD and LCD cable. Plug the power adapter into the motherboard USB-C port. If there is still no light and no boot this could mean the motherboard needs repair.
If the motherboard boots when isolated, slowly plug more components back into the motherboard until you find your issue. When plugging and unplugging components from the motherboard be sure to have the battery and power adapters unplugged!
Power Adapter
This should go without saying but at this point it might be helpful to check that your power adapter is functioning properly.
