Display

There are multiple types of display options. There are LCD panels, LCD modules and LCD cables. Either, panels or modules, can come in touch or non-touch versions. They can also have other features like stylus or tablet modes. In this section we will go over the variety of topics relating to the display.

LCD Panel

An LCD panel is usually attacted to the back cover and/or hinges with small screws. In rare occasions they are attached with long strips of double sided tape.

LCD Module

An LCD module is a combination of an LCD panel and a bezel. These usually have a seemless glass finish with the bezel giving them a clean aesthetic. LCD modules can attach to the back cover in a few ways. They either clip in around the edges with many small plastic clips or they might also have a few small screws towards the bottom under a trim cover.

30 Pin Cable

These are generally non-touch panels. Some of them may have a separate digitizer board connector and cable to enable touch functionality.

40 Pin Cable

These are generally touch panels and are very common on LCD modules.

Digitizer Board

The digitizer board is what allows the digitizer in the LCD panel or module to function. This may also have its own separate cable or is integrated into the LCD module.

Tablet Mode

  • Every 2 in 1 should enter tablet mode when folded back all the way.
  • If the keyboard no longer works when folded like this it is in tablet mode.
  • If it switches to tablet mode but doesn’t rotate its a bad gyro
  • If it doesn’t switch to tablet mode its a bad sensor or sensor cable

Stylus

EMR Film is a layer behind the LCD panel that gives the device stylus functionality. Models like the HP x360 G3 have EMR film that can be transferred to a new LCD in a repair situation.

Sleep Mode

If you are having issues with your device not sleeping when you close it please see this page on Sleep Mode.
