Motherboard

Reading about booting up the device is a great place to start learning about the motherboard.

There are a lot of things that could be discussed here. For now we will keep it surface level and get into more detail later.

For starters, we should know how to reserialize a motherboard.

This is to be done after replacing a motherboard. It is good practice to do this because any previous enrollments the previous board is under will be able to be re-enrolled later with ease.

You can check if the motherboard boots even if the LCD or power indicator aren't working by using the ChromeVox feature. Press CTL + ALT + Z and turn the volume up and you should hear some beeps or a computer voice prompting you to use ChromeVox.

Some motherboards need to have battery plugged in to the battery to enter dev mode.

HP G5 wont boot without the daughteboard attached.

Sleep Mode

If you are having issues with your device not sleeping when you close it please see this page on Sleep Mode.

Troubleshooting Dev Mode Disabled

  • If you get an error while trying to access Dev Mode try to log into a local account first. Signing into wifi may also do the trick too.
  • Try powerwashing the device
  • Boot the OS and load into initial setup screen, connect to wifi, & wait until you're at the sign-in screen/guest mode sign in
  • then load recovery screen again and that message should be gone when you turn off OS verification
  • those boards that come from the factory need to fetch their configuration information from Google before they can go into dev mode
  • I forget what exactly the process is called, but after the initial boot-up from factory shipping mode the boards lack certain device model attestation information in the VPD and block_devmode is also set to 0 in RW_VPD. By connecting to wifi and allowing it to perform initial setup prior to being able to sign on, the board determines if it is supposed to be part of a domain or not (Zero-touch enrollment), and if all is good, it sets block_devmode to 0 and allows you to enable developer mode.

Enrolled

Attempt powerwash and try to enroll in the CBP enrollment account

OS missing

  • Security module not working
  • that looks like a TPM failure
  • likely needs a new motherboard
  • the CR49 that it's referring to which is the security module uses an off the shelf flash chip to function
  • parade or winbond
  • could be that the flash rom chip bit the dust

Online solutions but idk

This solution should work as it resets the TPM:

- Power on the Chrome device and leave it on for 29 seconds.

- Turn device off.

- Repeat this procedure 19-25 times.

- After 7 repeats still didn't work then tried this one with the Ctr + D. Turned it off with only the on/off button. Turned on again after 10 sec. and it worked!! Thank you Mr. Henry Du!!

- when you turn on your chromebook, you will get the screen" Chrome OS is missing or damaged".

0. Turn off

1. Turn on again, hold down Ctrl + D

2. Hit "Enter"

Repeat for about 4- 8 times, I was able to get in and enroll my chromebook again.
